Digital Content
ALEKS - Students are required by the district to do at least one hour of ALEKS per week. Time is given in class, but students also have access to this at home. They use their iPads to complete this work. ALEKS continually monitors their math progress and knowledge and each student is provided individualized learning opportunities. When working in class, they are able to work on missing skills, or skills directly corelated to current content.
Khan Academy - Khan Academy has been one of my homework helpers throughout the year. This program gives students a short assessment at the beginning of their "mission". Students are then able to work on individualized learning with helpful videos if they get stuck. In order to master a topic, students must accomplish several mastery missions. Some students are working diligently and having great success with this program. It is similar to ALEKS, however, the videos are unique to Khan Academy. This program has also shown students where to go for math homework help. Since videos are aligned to seventh grade they are easily found by students in the current content area.
USA Test Prep - USA Test Prep is different from our other digital content in that it offers grade level specific help. Students are not preassessed on their background knowledge, but instead all students are offered the same types of questions, on the same topics, at the same time. It is unique, however, in its offering of videos, performance tasks, and games. When built properly, an assignment can be utilized to work in tandem with the classroom lesson plans for the week, offering reinforcement of skills and preparing students for grade level assessment questions. The performance tasks are directly aligned to the Common Core State Standards of Mathematics.
